“Trump Not Welcome” and “Smash WEF!” are the mottos that were popular during Anti-capitalists protests that took place in Swiss cities on Tuesday against a planned visit by Donald Trump for the World Economic Forum. President Trump is scheduled to speak on Friday at the Forum in the Alpine town of Davos during the annual meeting of global business and political leaders in parts where protests were banned. Approximately 20 people emerged holding banners that displayed their disapproval of Trump’s visit and made attempts to reach the Davos Congress Centre before the police peacefully disbanded them. According to the protesters, they have been in disagreement with the presence of Trump against attending the Economic Forum, and they have been protesting for a year.
The protesters carried flags and placards bearing the messages no trump, no coal, no gas, no fossil fuels while marching towards Zurich’s financial district an area where bankers have been requested to avoid. Hundreds of protesters also marched public squares in Geneva, Lausanne, and Fribourg. Earlier in the month, demonstrators had also marched to protest against Trump’s visit to Swiss capital of Bern. In response to the protests, more than 4000 soldiers were deployed at the area which was made a no-fly zone alongside 1,000 police
